According to Spiegel Online the OSCE has decided to send election monitors to Germany for this years Federal elections.
That’s right boys and girls, the same guys that go into Iran, Africa, Russia and the like will make sure that there is no shady business going on in Germany this year.
It appears that one of the factors involved in this decision was the fact that Germany decided to exclude a number of the smaller parties from participating in the elections. The 12 monitors will spend a part of their time in Germany investigating why they were not allowed to participate.
I remember a statement by the CDU and Merkel a few months back stating that she was worried about Twitter interfering with the election. As soon as those words came out of her mouth I started to have visions of the Iran Elections where Twitter stopped working and the opposition parties and supporters were unable to communicate.
I for one am glad there is some independent oversight in Germany, but I am not sure how much good it will do.
